Divided East Baton Rouge school board fails to select new superintendent

Divisions among board members submarined Thursday's vote for a new superintendent for the East Baton Rouge Parish school district. Four board members voted for Kevin George, director of the LSU Lab School in Baton Rouge, but the other five members abstained, leaving him one short of approval.

The YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge has unveiled 12 new modern apartments to provide safe and affordable housing to those trying to escape domestic violence. YWCA CEO Dianna Payton said stable housing helps survivors recover, focus on their physical and mental health and provide for their families.

More than 2,000 restaurants across the country received awards of excellence from Wine Spectator for their unique and extensive selections, including six in Baton Rouge. A total of 42 Louisiana establishments made this year's list.
