A summery weekend🔅! It should be mostly dry and warm for the Minnesota fishing opener this weekend. Spotty showers are possible on Saturday, with warm temps in the lower 70s for most of Minnesota. More 70s expected Sunday, with 60s near Lake Superior. Get the latest from Updraft.

More than 1,300 new COVID-19 cases reported on Minnesota's first mask-free day.

Minnesota health officials say the dropping of mask mandates is a sign of progress in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, but they're cautioning Minnesotans that the coronavirus remains widespread in the state. And the flattening vaccination rate still leaves hundreds of thousands of people at risk from COVID-19.

As of today, only about 61 percent of Minnesota adults have received at least one vaccine dose; over 50 percent are now fully vaccinated.

Remember: Your kids must still wear a mask in school buildings.

Following the order lifting the mask mandate, Minnesota school leaders rushed to remind families, students and staff that masks are still required in school buildings. Kids ages 12 to 15 received federal approval for the COVID-19 vaccine only this week, but younger students are still not eligible for vaccination.

Tomorrow, the Brooklyn Center City Council takes up the mayor's plan to overhaul policing.

Mayor Mike Elliot's proposal, which law enforcement leaders are speaking out against, would prohibit arrests for non-felony offenses and have unarmed civilians enforce minor non-moving violations. Jim Mortenson with Law Enforcement Labor Services, the union that represents Brooklyn Center officers, says this conflicts with state law that prohibits anyone but police from pulling over drivers.
