Two things to know about the NFL championship game: The San Francisco 49ers’ assistant offensive line coach in the 2024 Super Bowl is from Covington -- and younger than two of his players. Within hours of the game ending, the NFL spotlight turns to the host city for the 2025 Super Bowl. That would be New Orleans, where some preparations are on schedule, others not so certain.
For the better part of 200 years, a lighthouse on the shore of Lake Pontchartrain has helped guide vessels to the Tchefuncte River in western St. Tammany Parish. But the road to it washed away long ago, leaving it accessible only by water. Now there's a plan to protect the shoreline, in hopes that the lighthouse itself won’t collapse into the lake.
