Broadband belief

"We have much more to do to uplift our people and level the playing field," said Cody Dorsey, executive director of the Baltimore Digital Equity Coalition (BDEC), in my last email with him.

This sentiment relates to an update my editor Sameer Rao sent my way after the close of Maryland's recent legislative season last night. The BDEC supported The Broadband Expansion Incentive Act of 2023, which has since been amended and renamed as "Office of Statewide Broadband - Study of Broadband Expansion Incentives." The legislation requires a study on how to use state and federal funds to increase broadband expansion in underserved communities.

Although it was not expanded as originally intended, the BDEC views this as a critical step in promoting digital inclusion and closing the digital divide.
