| | #realchallenge finalists gives advice to Prime Minister The founders of AbleOn Medical, one of the startups to come out of the Nordic Independent Living Challenge competition, were recently given a golden opportunity to influence entrepreneurship policy at the highest level. The same day as they tested their functional prototype in Oslo, they were invited for lunch with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Minister of Finance Siv Jensen together with other entrepreneurs at the incubator Nyskapingsparken. There, they discussed how the government can help entrepreneurs create innovative and sustainable businesses. “It was really nice to contribute. We talked a bit about support programmes and I brought up the lack of support for financing prototypes in an early stage”, says Camilla Strand, CEO of AbleOn Medical (number two from the right in the front row in the picture). AbleOn Medical are making an ergonomic and modular shower system. The system helps elderly and people with disabilities feel safer and more independent while showering and through their bathroom routine. The startup was founded during the competition by Strand, who holds degrees in product design and innovation and entrepreneurship. The lunch with Prime Minister Solberg and Minister of Finance Jensen is not the first time AbleOn Medical have gotten attention this winter. In the middle of February, Norwegian state-owned broadcaster NRK followed the entrepreneurs when they tested their functional prototype with elderly citizens in Oslo. 23 teams in the local finals of the Nordic Built Cities Challenge Resource scarcity, climate change and population increase pose challenges to the cities of the world. Through the Nordic Built Cities Challenge, Nordic Innovation is working together with municipalities and companies to develop and visualise the best Nordic innovative solutions for our future liveable, smart and sustainable cities. The six local competitions address urban challenges from rainwater management and green mobility to revitalisation of old industrial areas and the development of climate-friendly housing. More than 140 companies submitted project proposals for the competition, and 23 teams have now been selected to proceed to the second stage of the Nordic Built Cities Challenge. Here, they will receive 300.000 NOK each along with the opportunity to develop their solution further in collaboration with the challenge owners. The final winners of the local competitions will be announced 16 June 2016.
