Video special: Construction begins at Ellebo

The Nordic Built Challenge winner project Ellebo Garden Room is now well underway. The four buildings in the social housing complex in Ballerup (DK) will be turned into a model for future retrofitting projects in the Nordic countries.

All five Nordic countries have a large number of residential buildings from the 60s and 70s that will need renovation in the near future, and doing so in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way could have a big impact.

Ellebo Garden Room will be built according to the principles of the Charter, taking both energy, climate, economy and people into account. The first of the four buildings will be retrofitted by December this year, while the whole project is planned to be finished by autumn 2019.

The project is lead by Adam Khan Architects, while the housing complex Ellebo is owned by Ballerup Ejendomsselskab and KAB.

The Nordic prime ministers launched Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges!

The Nordic countries have long striven to create more sustainable societies, and in October 2015, the prime ministers of the Nordic countries took the decision to launch a new initiative focused on Nordic solutions to global societal challenges. The purpose is to promote Nordic solutions and innovations that address some of the most pressing global issues. The prime ministers want to share knowledge of six flagship projects on the following themes:

  • Nordic Green

  • The Nordic Gender Effect

  • Nordic Food & Welfare

Nordic Innovation will manage two of the flagship projects under the Nordic Solutions to Global Challenges initiative. The Nordic Welfare Solutions project will build co-operation between export promotion organisations and business clusters to promote, showcase and export solutions within identified Nordic strongholds such as digital health and sustainable hospitals.

Nordic Sustainable Cities, which will be implemented together with Nordregio, will concentrate on building networks and exporting sustainable solutions for urban development in close collaboration with national agencies and business.

Supporting Nordic scale-ups

Nordic Innovation has put together an advisory board to help Nordic scale-ups achieve their full potential by supporting them through their growing pains. The advisory board will help to develop Nordic innovation policies and framework conditions to support scale-up companies, and to increase the number of such companies.
