Anhydrous or Heptahydrate?
Choosing between these two forms of magnesium sulfate—a common ingredient in many hydroponic fertilizers—often impacts a dry salt’s purity and/or stability.
While anhydrous can be more cost effective in achieving your desired nutrient targets, it can also have a higher percentage of insoluble contaminants that sometimes lead to grit accumulation and causes clogging in fertigation equipment. And while heptahydrate dissolves more rapidly, making it easier to work with, it can lack chemical stability, causing problems with caking or solidifying in certain storage conditions.
These phenomena are due to the chemical form of the dry salt and how it interacts with moisture. So, what’s a cannabis cultivator to do?
The team at General Hydroponics has you covered with data-driven results in this month’s special report. Through a balanced approach, you can optimize the best of both worlds while also minimizing undesirable outcomes. |
