When you work in homeless ministry for over 20 years, you witness a lot of what we call, God stories. There are times when God shows up in your life or the life of someone you are working with and just does something amazing. Tiah and I had the privilege of witnessing one of those as we attended a wedding ceremony this past week. A young man, who I have worked with for over 15 years, watched him struggle with drug addiction and homelessness, make a complete turnaround and is now starting a new life in Christ with his new bride. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Cor. 5:17 (KJV)
Winter shelter is just around the corner. Already we are starting to see temperatures drop into the forties. We are just a few days away from seeing the first of many freezing temperatures. Coldest Nights will once again be the crises solution for sheltering the homeless as the season begins.
Every day we move closer towards our goal of a permanent shelter solution. Our next step is the purchase of property. As of a month ago, we were at one third completion towards our goal. Today we sit at the halfway mark. We realize we did not get there by ourselves. Your help has been and continues to be crucial. We still need your prayers, donations, and your volunteer efforts.
Many of you have asked about the specific items needed by MRM for the upcoming shelter season. Below are the items that would be most helpful: - New towels for showering (40 or more to replace worn out towels)
- Laundry detergent (6 bottles)
- Bleach (6 bottles)
- Vinegar (4 bottles)
- 55- or 45-gallon heavy duty bags (6 rolls)
- Money to do laundry this season (2K is needed)
- Volunteers to help with laundry
- Donations to help purchase the final piece of property (70K is still needed)
**Double your gift this month: MRM has just learned that we have two donors willing to match all gifts towards property up to 10K by the end of November. This means every dollar given this month towards the property counts as double. I plan to give towards this, and I hope you will prayerfully consider a gift as well.
