In search of happiness

The recently opened exhibition Romain Mader - The Following is a True Story presents a series of projects that collectively tell the story of a naïve young man seeking happiness. Against the backdrop of a snowy mountain we see a hazy selfie of a bespectacled young man with his sharp, blonde fiancée. An honest representation or maybe not? The young man is Romain Mader, the Swiss artist who received the Foam Paul Huf Award earlier this year for his series Ekaterina: a search for a bride in an imaginary city. As part of the prize, the current solo exhibition in which Mader himself is the protagonist of several scenarios, is presented at Foam. Playing between reality and fiction, the artist subtly confronts the viewer with common misconceptions and prejudices. In a time of fake news and idealised user profiles on social media, Mader's work underlines the question of truth in photography, which is almost as old as the medium itself.

A star on the rise

The exhibition Tomorrow of Yesterday, now on view at Foam 3h, shows Stefanie Moshammer's latest project about the contradictions of life on the Haitian island of Île à Vache. After being selected as a Foam Talent by Foam Magazine in 2016, Moshammer went on to win the C/O Berlin Talent Award and publish her book Land of Black Milk. She is the first artist to receive the Florentine Riem Vis Stipendium, which was established at the beginning of this year with the aim of contributing to the development of the artistic careers of young artists whose work show a clear relationship to people.
