Hi there, Happy Giving Tuesday! At the start of a season increasingly known for consumerism, we hope you'll remember that a simple act can have a major impact on the lives of millions worldwide. Your standing in solidarity with Transparency International is such an act. But we have more work to do, and we need your help to do it. In 2017 your support allowed us to continue the important work of researching the insidiousness of corruption. In fact, one of our most recent reports revealed that 1 in 4 people around the world paid a bribe for public services. Using the evidence from this research we advocate for changes in policy and practice to tackle corruption. Last summer our partnership with investigative journalists strengthened the impact of breaking news stories. Our advocacy efforts following the revelations of the Azerbaijani Laundromat scandal ensured that the corruption uncovered was followed up on and the politicians involved held accountable. In 2017, a decade-long struggle with the French legal system to allow civil society to present evidence in court led to the landmark trial and conviction of Equatorial Guinea's vice-president Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue. He stole millions from Guineans and laundered it in France to furnish a luxurious lifestyle. And finally, in 2017 we continued to run our Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres (ALACs) in 60 different countries. The ALACs provide free support and legal advice to witnesses and victims of corruption, helping those whose lives are affected by the immoral deeds of the corrupt. As a supporter you have played a crucial role in strengthening the anti-corruption movement, but we need your help to continue the work. If you value a society that is open, fair and free of corruption please support Transparency International with a donation today. Please give. Sincerely, The Team at Transparency International P.S. What may seem like a small gift to you can contribute to lasting change in creating a world free of corruption. |
