Canberra's buses were carrying some 17,000 more passengers than the year before on this day in 1931. The increase was attributed to the introduction of the sectional fare system in November, 1930. A story in The Canberra Times said although the change initially saw a decrease in transport revenue, "the deficit has steadily become less pronounced ... it now is about equal with that forecast by the transport officer". READ MORE
