Nvidia’s new AI can make ‘sounds never heard before’

Similar to existing AI tools by other firms, Nvidia's creates sounds, music, and voices from text and audio prompts

Nvidia’s new generative audio AI model can create sounds, music, and voices, based on text and audio prompts. It can even generate "sounds never heard before," like barking trumpets or meowing saxophones, Digital Trends reported.

The model, dubbed Fugatto (aka Foundational Generative Audio Transformer Opus 1) can also add or remove instruments and vocals from existing tracks, as well as modify the accent and emotion of a voice. Nvidia said music producers could use the AI model to rapidly prototype and vet song ideas in various musical styles with varying arrangements, or add effects and additional layers to existing tracks ...

How I made my Android tablet better than a Windows laptop

‘With a little tinkering, I have elevated my OnePlus Pad 2 to the level of a true laptop’

The failure of brands to overcome the detachment between Android and Windows has prevented productivity-oriented devices like big and powerful Android tablets from realizing their full potential. But at the same time, the openness of Windows and Android has encouraged a community of developers to create custom solutions that brands overlook.

Digital Trends’ Tushar Mehta recently put the OnePlus Pad 2, a flagship Android tablet, at the center of his productivity setup to see how well it worked. Tushar found that he ended up with something that didn’t only make his Android tablet as good as a Windows laptop, but actually created something better ...

TCL’s first projector doubles as a Bluetooth speaker

At 5.5 pounds, it’s not quite as portable as some other projectors out there, but its price and features still make it noteworthy

TCL’s first portable projector, the Projector A1, is a Google TV-powered device that also works as a standalone stereo Bluetooth speaker, Digital Trends reported. It also offers Full HD resolution, 360 ISO lumens of brightness, 8 watts of power from each of its two built-in speakers, and an image size that can extend from 45 to 120 inches in diagonal size.

It’s worth noting that unlike some portable projectors, TCL’s new device doesn’t have its own internal battery, so you’ll need a source of power to use it. The Projector A1 is available now for $499, making it one of the more affordable products in this category ...

The making of Ridley Scott's Gladiator II

Killing off the hero in the first movie forced the makers to have a long hard think about how to tackle the sequel

Landing in theaters 24 years after the original, it’s little surprise that there’s quite a story behind the making of Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator II. The Hollywood Reporter has done a decent job of telling it, revealing how various script ideas came and went (including a fantasy version in which Maximus returned as an immortal warrior), how a relatively unknown Paul Mescal came to land the lead role, and also sharing some fascinating tidbits about the elaborate set. There’s even a bit about “Ridley’s rhino.”

Gladiator II raked in $56 million when it debuted at the North American box office last weekend, and fans will be pleased to know that plans are already being drawn up for a third installment ...

Microsoft warns that the latest Windows 11 update may crash PC games

The situation highlights the challenges of balancing large-scale OS updates with a diverse ecosystem of software and hardware

Microsoft’s major 24H2 update for Windows 11 is causing performance issues for a number of Ubisoft games, prompting the computer giant to suspend the update’s rollout to machines running the affected titles, Digital Trends reported.

Complaints from gamers about issues such as crashes and freezes have been widespread, with affected titles including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Until it rolls out a fix, Microsoft is advising folks to avoid manually installing the 24H2 update and to force-quit unresponsive games using Task Manager. Oh, and this isn’t the first compatibility issue linked to the update ...
