Happy October, I mean Oktober, New Orleans food folk! This week, Ian McNulty has the rundown on local Oktoberfests, where German food is on the table — and giant chickens are on the dance floor.  If you love tacos, you'll love hearing about all the new Mexican spots around town. Seafood Sally's has reopened with a fresh emphasis on oysters and the grill. Ba Chi Kitchen + Bar brings Vietnamese fusion to the former Korea House in Metairie, and a baker celebrates her new lease on life at Nolita. Finally, New Orleans chef Kevin Belton does tailgating right, with delicious recipes for grilled chili lime shrimp and a cheesy chowder.

1. The beer is here!

Restaurants all over town are leaning into their German heritage this month with food, beer and the flappy-clappy chicken dance. On Bayou St. John, Deutsches Haus kicks off its first weekend of Oktoberfest on Friday. Check it all out in Ian McNulty's roundup. 

2. Talk the taco? 

Four Mexican restaurants have opened in the past few weeks, each with its own style and take on the high comfort food quotient of tacos and other taqueria standards. Ian wraps it up here.

3. Wait! There's more.

After a month of needed repairs, Seafood Sally's has reopened on Oak Street.  Ba Chi Canteen, long a familiar stop Uptown, is now Ba Chi Kitchen + Bar in Metairie, with a new spin on Vietnamese flavors. And the bakery Nolita opens in Mid-City, with a special backstory of the owner's gratitude for a new life.

4. Hungry fans score big.

It's football season, and that means tailgating. Chef Kevin Belton celebrates with grilled chili lime shrimp and a hot, cheesy chowder.
