No Images? Click here Dear Friends of Skateistan, We’re almost there! After launching our fundraising campaign back in May, we were overwhelmed by the response we received and it’s all thanks to people like you. Our campaign was shared by skateboarders, film-makers, journalists, and singers, who have been spreading the story of our students to people who have never heard of Skateistan before. On behalf of all the children at our Skate Schools and the whole team, we want to say a heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you! We have almost reached our target of $60,000 which means a few things: First, we will continue to help #changethestory of children like Ahmad, Pisey, Omid and Nthabiseng and second, we’ll be able to develop our creative education programs further to spark ideas in our students’ minds about how the world could be different. So, if you want to help us give our campaign a final push, please consider donating today! READ: AHMAD'S STORY Ahmad fled with his family from his hometown. He now lives in a camp for displaced people and there's no school in the camp. His parents can't read or write. But Ahmad can. He joined our Back-to-School program and caught up with his lessons. After one year at Skateistan, Ahmad has completed grades 1–3 and successfully enrolled in public school. Not only can he now read and write, but he is also determined to carry on with his education. Help us to change the story for more children like Ahmad. Read more about him on our blog and donate today to support our campaign! BID: A VERY SPECIAL AUCTION The Skateroom have been amazing supporters of Skateistan for years. If you don't already know them, they produce art for social impact on skate decks. Way before The Skateroom produced its own art decks, its CEO and Founder, Charles-Antoine Bodson, supported Skateistan by selling his private collection of skateboards. A part of that collection still remains. Today, on Go Skateboarding Day, The Skateroom is putting that collection to good use once again. They are teaming up with eBay for a charity auction dedicated to the collection that started it all. Keeping with tradition, 10% from every sale will go to support Skateistan programs. If you’re a fan of artists like Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, or even Obey’s Shepard Fairey, now’s your chance to grab some unique and rare art decks! The auction goes live at 7pm CEST (1pm EST, 10am PST) so get ready to bid in a few hours! BUY: MAKE MUSIC THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE At Skateistan, we’re all about creativity. Our students often make new things from old skate gear. We are passionate about the environment and we include lessons in our Skate and Create curriculum on the importance of protecting the natural world and recycling. So, we were beyond stoked when Tone For Change suggested making a guitar pedal from our students’ old skate decks in Afghanistan. 100% of profits support our programs - what more could you want? Get your limited edition Skateistan pedal now! CELEBRATE: HAPPY GO SKATEBOARDING DAY! As hundreds of local events worldwide are held today to celebrate skate culture and add some color to the streets, we hope you will all be able to get out there and skate! And while you’re enjoying a great day of skating and learning a new trick or two, we’re also celebrating big time at our Skate Schools. From skate jams and role plays to fashion shows and competitions, our students are celebrating creative self-expression and the culture of this incredible sport in Afghanistan, South Africa and Cambodia. Stay tuned for a blog post about the celebrations we held in each school, and donate now to help our students imagine a different future. Let’s change their stories together!
