| Dear Reader, It’s a day and a night’s hard drive from Buenos Aires to a sprawling ranch called Gualfín in northwest Argentina’s Calchaquí Valley. It’s a pretty rugged part of the world, the original inhabitants of which were the Incas. Today, Gualfín’s current inhabitant is Bill Bonner. Bill’s my boss. One of my mentors. And one of the smartest contrarian financial minds you’re ever lucky enough to read. I’ve never quite had the time (or guts!) to accept an invite to Bill’s hacienda in the Calchaquí Valley. I’ve visited his Chateau de Courtomer, set on 350 acres in France, many times. As well as his vast resort on Nicaragua’s pristine Emerald Coast. Bill had quite a few places to choose from to spend his COVID lockdown in during 2020. But he chose Argentina…and managed to get in right before the borders closed. Why that choice? Bill needed as much quiet as possible. And needed to get as remote as possible. He had something very important to do. Perhaps the most important thing in all his 72 years.
