This July, Eastern Area Agency on Aging is celebrating Social Wellness Month with July for Joy—a special campaign to support the low-cost or free wellness programs that help older adults stay connected, active, and emotionally engaged.
From exercise and Tai Chi to card and board games, arts and crafts, and community cafés, these programs spark joy, create friendships, and provide purpose for hundreds of older adults across our region.
Just ask Peggy, who found her way to EAAA’s arthritis exercise class thanks to a neighbor—and discovered more than just movement. “I live alone… some days, I don’t have anybody stop in or call,” Peggy shared. “But when I go to the Durgin Center, I feel like I’m one of the group. I call it a family. We laugh, we talk, and I come home feeling good. Not so lonesome.” Since joining, Peggy says her strength has improved—and so has her spirit. “We need places like this, and they need help to keep going. Seniors need this — to stay healthy, keep walking, and keep going as we get older.”
While we receive some public funding, it doesn’t fully cover the cost of running these essential programs. To keep prices low and access high, we’re relying on our community—and that means you. |
