BY ADAM DAIGLE | Acadiana Business Editor Word began spreading Friday that Robert Daigle, one of the driving forces behind River Ranch, Sugar Mill Pond and other residential projects in the area, was in failing health, and it put me to work on a story about Daigle's legacy. On Sunday, he died following a bout with cancer. It's easy to drive through River Ranch and not think anything about it, but that project was way ahead of its time and really accelerated a lot of the commercial growth in that area of Lafayette Parish. Dagle was also one of the architects of Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville, and it was a project that made people scratch their heads about why Daigle wanted to duplicate River Ranch in what was almost the middle of nowhere. Daigle, it's worth noting, is the third prominent Lafayette business person to pass away this year. You can read my story about Daigle's legacy here. Have a great day and thanks for reading. |
