Mayor LaToya Cantrell might put all Carnival parades on St. Charles Avenue
By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor ONE-WAY TRAFFIC: New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is considering whether to require all Mardi Gras season parades follow a single St. Charles Avenue route in 2022, due to personnel shortages and safety concerns. That would disrupt the parades of Zulu, Thoth and, especially, Endymion. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF: The shocking video showing a Jefferson Parish deputy sheriff Julio Alvarado grabbing a woman by her hair to slam her into the pavement is hardly the first time he's been fingered for violence. He's been named in nine excessive-force lawsuits: two settled, two pending and the rest dismissed from court.
