The town of Weston, Mo. is called home by nearly 1,800 people. Two of those people, Nolan Cook and Will Shafer, are about to graduate from high school. While they’ve been friends since childhood, their paths are about to take very different, albeit somewhat similar, turns.

Despite their paths differing in countless ways, one leading back home and another to a career in the clouds, their stories show the critical role of education in rural America.

Follow Cook and Shafer in our new photo essay, and see the important role further education is playing in their lives.
