Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! One Step Closer To Ending The Fentanyl Crisis Watch my statement on my landmark fentanyl legislation here. Fentanyl has killed tens of thousands of Americans. Unfortunately, the Biden administration failed to take the steps necessary to save American lives, allowing Chinese suppliers and cartels to fuel this deadly poison across President Biden’s open border. This week, my FEND Off Fentanyl Act, which addresses America’s fentanyl crisis, was debated and unanimously passed out of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. This a critical milestone that brings the bill one step closer to becoming law. The fentanyl epidemic has taken thousands of South Carolinians' lives, and I am doing everything in my power to end this crisis before it claims even more. Helping Make Ends Meet for Our Moms As Americans face record high prices due to President Biden’s inflationary policies, I recognize that there are many costs that come with raising a family. Particularly when carrying a baby, expectant moms face tremendous challenges as they plan for the care of a newborn amid this uncertain economy. They deserve nothing less than our utmost support as they navigate a joyful yet challenging time. As part of my efforts to support pregnant moms, I joined my colleagues in introducing the Child Tax Credit for Pregnant Moms Act, which allows them to claim the Child Tax Credit for their unborn children. This legislation will make life easier for moms, empowering them with the resources they need to thrive, especially in President Biden’s failing economy. Questioning Federal Reserve Chairman Powell This week, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs held a hearing with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. I urged on the Fed Chair to show thoughtful leadership as the Federal Reserve considers how to address the failures of their regulators to intervene prior to the collapses of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. But most importantly, I expressed my concern for the impact President Biden’s inflationary spending is still having on our nation’s economy. While the Biden administration celebrates what they call a healthy economy, the average person in our nation today struggles to make ends meet because of the inflationary impact on their bottom line. I asked Chair Powell to focus on easing inflation because I believe we can restore economic opportunity in South Carolina and across America, but it must start with ending this President’s rampant spending and putting money back into taxpayer’s pockets.
