All the latest about Toronto this week
ALL THE LATEST ABOUT TORONTO THIS WEEK | When Ruby Kooner lost her beloved pup Amber after a coyote attack last December, she wanted to channel her heartbreak into action. The Coyote Safety Alliance is a citizen group co-founded by Kooner and fellow Liberty Village and Fort York residents. They say redevelopment in the area has upset the natural balance, putting humans, pets and even the coyotes themselves in harm’s way. Last week, the city took action by euthanizing two coyotes. Animal activists are outraged, but Kooner sees it as a Band-Aid solution to a much bigger problem. |

While most Toronto restaurants and bars are preparing to open their patios for the season, one east-end kitchen is doing the opposite. Yesterday, Jordan Diniz, the chef and owner of Est in Riverdale, took to Instagram to explain why he’s putting a pin in patio service this summer. |
In the year 1900, William Mackenzie, Flora Eaton and J.W.L. Forster, among other local art lovers, founded the Art Museum of Toronto, and 10 years later, aristocrat Harriet Boulton Smith bequeathed her family manor to give it a proper home. Over the past century, the museum undertook several expansions of Boulton Smith’s historic Grange and gave it a new name. To celebrate the AGO’s 125th birthday, we asked interpretive planner Nadia Abraham to share the stories behind beloved works from its permanent collection. |

A private school beside our house just started renting out its pickleball courts, and the noise is maddening. Whenever we open a window or venture into the backyard, it’s a cacophony of thwacking balls and squeaking sneakers. We’ve complained, but the school just says it can do what it wants with its property. With every pop of a bouncing ball, I can feel our property value tanking and our sanity slipping away. What to do? —Unholy Racquet, Casa Loma |
