Science in the News
Check out some of our favorite science happenings!

The diabolical ironclad beetle is like a tiny tank on six legs. Studying this beetle's impact-absorbing exoskeleton (that can survive being run over by a car!) could inspire new, sturdier designs for things such as body armor, buildings, bridges, and vehicles.

Making a scary movie playlist for Halloween? A scientific study using the average heart rate of participants watching an assortment of movies has determined the scariest movie ever.

OSIRIS-REx, a NASA spacecraft successfully touched down on a skyscraper-sized asteroid 200 million miles away. A sample of rock and dust from the asteroid will hopefully be returned to Earth for studying to improve our planetary defenses against potentially dangerous space rocks and for information on how the solar system formed and has evolved.

Have you ever wondered why leaves change colors in the Fall? Learn about which types of trees change colors, how weather affects the colors, and how the leaves know it's time to change.
