Preparing Community College Students with Research Skills for a Lifetime Thursday, April 9, 2020 2-3 PM ET / 11 AM-12 PM PT
Community colleges equip students with essential research skills for today’s world, and language and literature programs are a critical component of the community college curriculum. The MLA Committee on Community Colleges, supporting teaching and scholarship in 2-year-college modern language departments, presents a variety of resources that community colleges can use. One such tool is the free online course to teach students how to conduct research using the MLA International Bibliography. For tips from the course creators and a faculty member who has integrated the course into the community college curriculum, please join us on Thursday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. ET for “Preparing Community College Students with Research Skills for a Lifetime” presented by MLA and EBSCO.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, many classes are shifting from in-person to online. The MLA has set up a site with resources for teaching remotely called Bringing Your Course Online. While this webinar centers around using the MLA International Bibliography, the panelists will also include general recommendations about online instruction for community colleges.
Attendees will learn:
- Benefits of language and literature research for community college students
- Unique aspects of teaching language and literature at the community college level
- How to use free, open teaching materials from the MLA International Bibliography in community colleges
- How the MLA’s free online mini-course on database research techniques can be used to flip the classroom
