One election over the weekend that you may have overlooked: Donald E. Richard defeated Sidney Morales by just 48 votes for the District 2 seat of the Lafayette Parish Council, according to complete but unofficial election results. Richard, 67, won by a razor-thin margin, claiming 5,002 of the 9,956 votes cast in the race. Morales, 53, received 4,954 votes. The unofficial turnout for the race was 32.8%. Richard said he's been intrigued with local government since he worked for LCG and served on the water district board. "I thought this was a good opportunity," Richard said.
