Stretching

Dear Yogi,

No yoga class is complete without a delicious backbend!

Spending many hours hunched over our phones or curled in on the sofa calls for a counteracting stretch to release tension in the shoulders and chest. Backbends also stretch the quads and hip flexors, build strength and power in the legs, arms and back, and are overall invigorating.

Backbends stimulate the heart chakra, allowing us to open more to our emotions, experiences and in our relationships. They may release stored emotions like frustration, fear, anger, sadness as well as joy and love.
