Matt Goddard, an early pioneer in the Baltimore tech ecosystem, passed away last week after a battle with cancer.
A report from the Baltimore Business Journal noted Goddard’s foresight and leadership in Baltimore. About 10 years ago, the logo of R2integrated (R2i), which he cofounded and led as CEO, replaced the defunct Baltimore Examiner’s in the Inner Harbor.
Goddard embraced the late-1990s technology boom and adeptly navigated challenges like the strategic sale of his company, Impreza Design, before the tech bubble crash.
He played a significant role in establishing R2i, now a Protiviti company, as one of Baltimore's prominent software developers. His legacy is defined by his substantial contributions to the tech sector and the reflections of the people whose lives he touched — like his cofounder and friend Chris Chodnicki.
“Matt's role as CEO was more than strategic; it was visionary,” Chodnicki said in a LinkedIn post. "His ability to navigate challenges, anticipate future trends, and embrace change positioned R2i as a regional and eventually national force. Baltimore held a special place in Matt's heart, evident in his commitment to the tech startup community and our company's growth milestones.”
