View email online | | | | | | | | | Nov 2, 2020 | | | | | | | | Good evening To say there is a difference in attitudes between the first lockdown and the second one is an understatement. Back in March, everyone could see the need for shutting down the nation and there were few dissenting voices.
Now we are living in very different times. The country seems to be split between those who are concerned about the rising number of cases and its potential effect on both the NHS and the death toll, and others who do not believe lockdown is the answer.
The latter camp is right in some ways. Lockdowns in themselves are never the answer to a pandemic. They are simply a short, sharp shock aimed at breaking the inexorable march of the virus.
It is what you do during the lockdown which really counts and that is where we have to get it right this time.
Our test, track, trace and isolate system needs to evolve into one which is genuinely ‘world-beating’ and can find cases quickly and deal with them effectively.
