Opponents of private school grant plan file lawsuit

The lawsuit was filed in the S.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday. It follows an Orangeburg trial court's decision on July 22 to block Gov. Henry McMaster's plan to use COVID-19 funding for private school tuition for low- to moderate-income students. 

S.C. receives $500,000 grant to combat human trafficking

The U.S. Department of Justice grant will allow Summerville-based organization Doors to Freedom to assist trafficking victims with housing costs, employment searches and occupational training.

Leadership Columbia seeks proposals for 2021 class project

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s leadership development program chooses a nonprofit program each year focusing on community issues such as education, arts and culture, and health services. The deadline to submit proposals is Aug. 24.

Graham amendment would lower unemployment benefits

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., introduced an amendment that would alter federal COVID-19-related unemployment benefits from $600 per week to $500 per week for August and September. State benefits would remain at $236 a week.
