View email online | | | | | Aug 18, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening It’s difficult to be optimistic about the future of the human race at the moment. For the last 18 months we have been in the grip of a pandemic which may or may not be man-made and many are struggling with finding the confidence to go back to their former, more free lives. More recently we have seen what climate change has done to different parts of the globe, from devastating flooding in central Europe to wildfires in Greece, Turkey and Canada. Now we are in the grip of an humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where thousands of people are trying to escape a brutal, misogynistic regime they thought had been defeated by their allies in the West ... until we upped ship and disappeared almost overnight leaving them to their fate. But there are still some rays of light in the many acts of kindness and charitable works we hear about each day, the bravery of those who put their own lives at risk to save others threatened by some of the extremes of weather and war. And of course there are the health workers nearer to home who inspire us every day. Let’s hold on to that.
