Optus Bank receives $50M in deposit funding from PayPal

The Columbia-headquartered bank is the first recipient of a $530 million commitment to support Black and minority-owned businesses and communities announced in June by the online payments system operator. 

S.C. applies for federal unemployment assistance program

The Lost Wages Assistance program would provide an additional $300 a week in unemployment benefits. The state awaits Federal Emergency Management Agency approval as initial unemployment claims filed since mid-March climb past 725,000.

Construction begins on 6-megawatt Denmark solar facility

The 6-megawatt facility in Bamberg County will generate enough renewable energy to power an equivalent of 1,000 homes and is one of three solar operations Dominion has acquired from Charleston-based Southern Current. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield donates $8 million to HBCUs

The donation from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina will help five historically Black colleges and universities boost technology infrastructure and establish scholarships. Columbia's Allen University and Benedict College are among the recipients.
