Australia's second largest telco Optus suffered a drop in profits for the quarter ending 30 June despite increasing revenue and subscriber numbers. The company's latest financial report revealed net profits for the three months dropped by 3.5% to $154 million from $160 million for the same period in 2017.

Telecom operators in India have been asked to devise methods of blocking Facebook and WhatsApp in the event that these applications are misused, Reuters reports.

As Australia considers banning Huawei from contributing to 5G development, China is well ahead of the US in the 5G race, outspending the latter by about US$24 billion since 2015 to set up wireless communications infrastructure and building 350,000 new sites, a new report claims.

In a monumental fail, German global discount supermarket chain Lidl has had to discontinue a move to SAP after six years, with the system ronounced dead on arrival and the firm deciding to revert to its old inventory system. Lidl's annual revenue is about €100 billion.
