Developers Corner | Oracle Linux - Keeping Linux open and free for everyone Tom Temin hosts Robert Shimp, Senior Vice President for Product Management at Oracle, discussing Oracle's Linux strategy and its commitment to open source principles. Oracle's Linux strategy focuses on providing enterprise-grade performance, scalability, and security, supporting various deployment options, delivering complete solutions including automation and management tools, and application compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The discussion also provides an update on the formation of the Open Enterprise Linux Association (OpenELA) by Oracle, SUSE, and CIQ to maintain an open and compatible enterprise Linux source code base. OpenELA aims to facilitate collaboration on enterprise Linux development and support, while helping ensure compatibility with RHEL and CentOS APIs. Ksplice known exploit detection for GLIBC vulnerability CVE-2023-6246 CVE-2023-6246 is a security vulnerability in the glibc library that allows a local attacker to escalate their privileges. Oracle Linux doesn’t use the vulnerable glibc versions. However, we decided to implement known exploit detection for this vulnerability in the kernel to allow system administrators to report and alarm future attempts to exploit the vulnerability. Read the blog post to learn how Ksplice Exploit Detection can report uncommon activities to help ensure that administrators are aware of a possible attack. How to enable AMD AVIC and speed up your VMs In an ideal scenario, a virtual machine would match the performance of the bare metal host on which it runs. Given the extreme complexity and variability of hardware, purely software-based virtualization can suffer from unavoidable (and significant) overhead. To help with this challenge, hardware vendors provide hardware-assisted virtualization capabilities to help mitigate the biggest bottlenecks. This blog entry focuses on the AMD Advanced Virtual Interrupt Controller (AVIC) capability, a specialized component essential for interrupt handling in modern multiprocessor systems. XFS: Tracking space on a realtime device XFS supports a separate volume called the realtime device which aims to reduce disk space tracking delays. Read this article to learn about the underlying on-disk structures used by XFS for managing space on a realtime device. |
