Good evening,

Good evening,

Origin Energy won corporate news of the day on Thursday when it brought forward the planned closure of NSW coal-fired power plant Eraring.

Although there’s plenty of debate about what it means for NSW and Australia’s electricity markets, it’ll also create more options for Origin.

As we wrote this week, there’s a bunch of European players and Australian companies looking for a way into the country’s integrated utilities, but they’ve been put off by the coal exposure.

AGL Energy and EnergyAustralia have already started restructuring their businesses to potentially attract investment, and Origin could now go down the same path.

In Street Talk tomorrow, we look at the latest clinical trials business thinking about a sale, and APA Group’s plans to be involved in NSW’s renewable energy zones.

Happy reading,
