The food market is marked by soaring prices and shortages due to supply shocks following the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as repeated extreme weather events linked to climate change and geopolitical conflicts, notably Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to Agnès Ricroch, all innovations must be used to ensure food security, particularly in the European Union.

This is a key election in Corinne Deloy's view, with the Polish elections on 15 October mainly pitting the governing Law and Justice party against the Civic Platform of former European Council President Donald Tusk. Will the Christian Social Party (CSV) return to office in Luxembourg?

The Luxembourg authorities announced that legislative elections would be held in the Grand Duchy on 8 October. As in 1999 and 2017-2018, when both elections were held in under a year, 2023 will be an electoral "super year" for Luxembourg, as the population will be called upon to renew the 60 members of the Chamber of Deputies, the single chamber of Parliament, after appointing the representatives of the country's 100 communal councils on 11 June.

Robert Fico back in power in Slovakia?

On 30 September, Slovaks renewed the 150 members of the National Council of the Republic (Narodna rada Slovenskej republiky), the single chamber of parliament. Direction-Social Democracy (SMER-SD), led by former prime minister Robert Fico, came out ahead with 22.94% of the vote and 42 seats. It beat Progressive Slovakia (PS), (17.96% and 32 seats) and 5 other parties represented in parliament with which it will attempt to build a coalition.

Presentation of the Franco-German Journalism Prize 2023

At the 40th awards ceremony, 5 winners were honoured in the Documentary, Investigative, News, Young Talent and Special Prize categories. The Franco-German Media Grand Prix was also awarded to the writer Leïla Slimani and the translator Georges-Arthur Goldschmidt. The Robert Schuman Foundation is a partner of the Prize.
