Dear Supporter, I am writing to provide you with an update I received overnight from my colleagues on the ground in Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine. Despite great security and logistical challenges, UNHCR has managed to deliver the first batch of blankets, sleeping mats and other key aid items, where more than 700 Ukrainians have arrived over the past days seeking safety.
They are just some of the many thousands of people who have fled their homes over the past days. Around 422,000 people have been forced to flee into neighbouring countries such as Poland and Moldova, and hundreds of thousands more have been internally displaced by the conflict – and the numbers are rising rapidly.
As people are fleeing the military offensive for safety and shelter, my colleagues on the ground are in constant touch with internally displaced people across Ukraine, to identify what they need and we are determined to stay and provide humanitarian support.
