Good evening Have you struggled to get a GP appointment lately? A Lancashire GP representative has been forced to defend those in the profession and stress ‘We are not lazy.’ It comes as demand for appointments rose by a third and many patients are struggling to get seen or arrange a phone appointment. Many of you have told us about spending hours on hold while some simply want to talk to a person in person. One-on-one appointments are gradually being re-introduced but doctors say, due to the nature of the pandemic and its infection control, many aspects of their work ‘takes a lot longer.’ Many patients have saved up a lot of issues, say GPs, and the pressure on them is ‘unsustainable.’ They have admitted they can’t cope. Sometimes, we have to remember how lucky we are to have the NHS. It has held us up throughout the pandemic and continually adapted - we are still lucky to have it relatively free and on our doorstep. Our GPs are the backbone of this system and on the front line of non-emergency medicine. They need more help, we need more of them, and the Government needs to act. Have a good evening.
