Our Most Successful Campaign So Far, Goodpush Alliance Toolkit & Visit to the Sterkfontein Caves

Our Most Successful Campaign So Far Raises $215,000!

Skateistan

For Skateistan, 2018 ended in the most awesome way possible, as our 'Skateboarding is for Everybody' campaign smashed its target and raised an incredible $215,000! This was the most successful fundraising campaign in Skateistan's history and it's all down to you, our amazing supporters.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, joined the Citizens of Skateistan or simply spread the news about the campaign. The money raised will help us to spread the shred to even more children and to bring the joy and freedom of skateboarding into their lives. We can't thank you enough.

As we roll into the new year, we are more ambitious than ever about what we can achieve through skateboarding and education. And of course, we won't be able to do it without you!

Global Update: The Goodpush Alliance Toolkit is Live!

Goodpush image

Exciting news for anyone involved in skateboarding for development! On 15 January, The Goodpush Alliance published the first online resource toolkit for social skateboarding projects worldwide. The Goodpush Alliance, which was formed by Skateistan last year, is bringing together a global network of skateboarding for development organizations to help share knowledge, ideas and good practice. By working together, we can increase our collective impact.

The toolkit contains guidance, resources and templates to give social skateboarding projects a head start on things like building community, running programs and child protection. To get a full summary of the project, visit our blog.

Johannesburg Update: A Visit to the Sterkfontein Caves

Joburg

At Skateistan we believe all children have the right to a high-quality, creative education which helps them to explore and develop their potential. Recently, our students in Johannesburg went on a trip to the Sterkfontein Caves, a World Heritage Site not far from the city. This visit gave the children a chance to experience a different environment as well as learning about the natural history of their country. Head over to our blog to read how it all went!

Citizen Profile: Viktor Telégin

This month we are welcoming a new member to our Citizens of Skateistanfamily, the most awesome global community that empowers children through skateboarding and education. Citizens donate $10 or more per month and in return, we give them exclusive information, images and insights from our Skate Schools.

Viktor started skating at the age of 12, and since founding CHPO Brand, has become an awesome friend to Skateistan by making CHPO products which benefit our students. CHPO Brand also got involved with our most recent campaign by matching donations for one week in December. Welcome to the Citizens of Skateistan, Viktor!

Dropping In: Joel Pippus Tells us How Skateboarding Helps Children to Heal from Trauma

Dropping In in a mini-series over on our blog, where we get to know experts, inspirational people and those doing something amazing in our community. To kick off the new year, we are delighted to introduce Joel Pippus.

Joel works for Hull Services in Calgary, Canada, which provides mental health and behavioural support for children and families. The facility contains a skatepark, where Joel and his colleagues have observed the positive effect of skateboarding on children affected by trauma.

For this edition of Dropping In, we spent a little more time with Joel and asked him about what he’s learned and how this could apply to what we do here at Skateistan.
