Our Plan to Restore & Defend Reproductive Freedom

Dear Voornaam, despite the attack by right-wing Supreme Court justices, abortion is still legal here in Oregon. This is thanks to smart, strategic work by Democrats in 2017 to pass the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which ensures that ALL Oregonians have access to the full range of preventive reproductive health services.

How will we help restore reproductive freedom across the country? Elect more Democrats! In November, we need to elect two more Democratic U.S. Senators who support filibuster reform, while maintaining our majority in the House of Representatives. If we do that, we will reform the filibuster and pass legislation to ensure reproductive rights for ALL Americans. That’s the plan.

What needs to happen here in Oregon? The good news is that Oregon’s U.S. Senators – Democrats Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley – both support filibuster reform and passing legislation to make reproductive freedom the law of the land. Sen. Wyden is on the ballot this year, and we need to make sure that he is elected. We also need to elect the six great Oregon Democrats running for U.S. House seats to ensure we maintain control of the House of Representatives.

What wins elections? The Democratic Party of Oregon knows how to win elections, but it takes a lot of work. We must talk one-on-one with our neighbors about the values that we share and what’s at stake. These conversations help push beyond labels and talking points.
