A familiar face and name, Lindsay Henley from Ignite Capital, recently reached out to me, praising my Women's History Month riddles about pioneering women in STEM. After wishing me a happy International Women's Day, Lindsay introduced me to Sabrina Thompson, the remarkable rocket scientist and atmospheric physicist behind GIRL IN SPACE CLUB. Sabrina's passion for space exploration, climate change and innovation extends to art and fashion under her artist name, Nefertiti-Pokahontas. She created GIRL IN SPACE, a book series and artwork collection that since GIRL IN SPACE CLUB, where STEM is fun and fashionable.
Nefertiti-Pokahontas is a talented artist whose name is an amalgamation of two distinct cultures that reflect her Native-African American identity. Nefertiti means "the beautiful one has arrived" in Egyptian, while Pocahontas translates to "she is playful" in Algonquin. For Nefertiti-Pokahontas, her name not only represents her cultural background but also her personality and attributes.
Are there other innovative women I should know about as we journey through celebrating women during Women’s History Month in the newsletter note?
