There are a lot of things affected by the current Pandemic, and in Florida the end of greyhound racing was moved up to now instead of the end of 2020. This meant that there would be a lot of greyhounds available for adoption. We are fostering a beautiful 3 year old chocolate colored female named Leslie.
She came to us freshly neutered with a partially resolved case of heart worms. The medicine they gave her caused very loose stools, and we were trying things like rice and pumpkin to thicken things up to no avail.
When we got in touch with the vet they said to feed her yogurt and make sure the brand had active cultures. Sure enough 2 days of yogurt eating had solved the problem, and the vet said it was the Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus bacteria in the yogurt that did the trick.
It is not unknown to many of us how these bacteria re-establish proper gut flora, and now our intern, Mit Suthar, PharmD. Candidate, LECOM School of Pharmacy, looks at a large study showing the value of these 2 bacteria in possibly preventing and treating type 2 diabetes.
