CLIMBING HIGH: The Air Force signaled a vote of confidence in the Belle Chasse military base, announcing plans to replace 18 aging fighter jets there with newer, more advanced models. The plan to swap an aircraft model developed near the end of the Vietnam war for one that started flying just two years ago suggests Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans is at much less risk of being closed the next time the Pentagon pares back.
