1. Packaging company All4Labels uses EKOenergy-labelled electricity |
|
All4Labels, headquartered in Germany, is one of the world’s top label manufacturers and the leading provider of digital printing and packaging solutions. They focus on the personal care sector and food & beverage markets. Recently, on Earth Day, they highlighted their choice of 100% EKOenergy-labelled electricity worldwide. By choosing EKOenergy, All4Labels helps speed up the energy transition in several ways: they contribute to the realisation of new, additional solar energy projects in developing countries and support us to promote renewable energy across the world. By being vocal about their use of EKOenergy-labelled renewable electricity, they also inspire many others to switch to 100% sustainable renewable energy. Thanks to All4Labels for their trust in our work, and to our licensees for offering buyers the option to choose our nonprofit ecolabel to go the extra mile. |
|
"We have gone the extra mile by purchasing high-quality EACs with the EKOenergy ecolabel, meaning that the renewable energy we purchased was generated sustainably. Furthermore, we are co-financiers of solar projects in the developing world and thus advance several of the United Nations' SDGs." - Edison Esparza, Global Sustainability Strategy, All4Labels, on LinkedIn |

2. New users of EKOenergy-labelled solar in Ecuador and Italy |
|
Two recent consumers of EKOenergy-labelled solar power are Parque de la Paz La Aurora in Ecuador and IPLUS in Italy. Parque de la Paz La Aurora is a cemetery near Guayaquil, Ecuador. When EKOenergy licensee Deltaglobal SA installed solar panels on the buildings of the cemetery, they encouraged the cemetery to add the EKOenergy label since it complements the cemetery's sustainability objectives and fits well with their focus on respect and harmony. The Italian consultancy IPLUS uses EKOenergy-labelled solar power through ForGreen, an Italian electricity supplier that sells only 100% EKOenergy-labelled solar energy. By using environmentally sustainable electricity, IPLUS is walking the talk and also showing its commitment to climate action. Thanks to ForGreen and Deltaglobal for actively promoting the growth of solar power and helping consumers make an additional positive impact through the EKOenergy ecolabel. |

3. Stop fuelling war & stop fuelling the climate crisis |
|
EKOenergy has joined 500 other organisations from 6 continents and sent a letter to world leaders urging the close of the fossil fuel era. We are calling upon politicians to implement an immediate, just and equitable transition to 100% renewable energy to prevent irreversible harm and mass suffering. The war in Ukraine is a stark illustration of how fossil fuels directly enable global conflict and threaten democracy in addition to driving the climate emergency. Against the backdrop of the latest dire Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, the need to transition away from fossil fuels has never been more urgent. This is a critical moment to stand up to the false narrative being spread by the fossil fuel industry that we need to increase oil and gas production in response to surging energy prices. Instead, nations can and must rapidly deploy renewable energy systems domestically, while cooperating internationally to share resources and launch an energy secure future immune from the global volatility and violence of fossil fuels. |

4. EKOenergy continues to grow, congratulations to our licensed sellers |
|
We are in the process of verifying last year's data and the main trends are now clear: almost all our active licensees sold more EKOenergy-labelled energy than in the previous year. Some even doubled their volumes. Thanks and congratulations! As always, we're open to collaboration to maintain this trend in 2022 too. Let's speed up the energy transition by helping consumers switch to EKOenergy-labelled renewable energy and encouraging them to communicate about the extra positive impacts. If you are a licensed seller and you want to refresh your memory on the main sales arguments or update your marketing materials, don't hesitate to get in touch. We can schedule a meeting and help you update your marketing materials. |

"Apart from the fact that you get EKOenergy-labelled wind power when you use Virta's charging points, during the Mobility Week organised by Protect Our Winters, the price you pay at the charging stations of Ruka, Pyhä and Salla will be donated to support the work of Protect Our Winters." |

5. EKOenergy contributes to the UN Global Goals (SDGs) |
|
Amidst surging energy and climate crises, the UN wants to take a major step in accelerating a transition to clean, affordable energy for all. Today, on the 4th of May, the UN is launching the UN-Energy Plan of Action and the Energy Compact Action Network. The launch aims to put into action the transformational commitments made in connection with the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy in September 2021. These commitments will drive forward a just, inclusive energy transition as set out in the Global Roadmap for Accelerated SDG 7 Action. EKOenergy's commitment to contributing to the SDGs by creating an additional positive impact has been accepted under the UN Energy Compacts. In our Energy Compact, the focus is particularly on the tangible results EKOenergy users enable us to achieve. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) has also highlighted the EKOenergy ecolabel as a good practice in a previously published paper SDG Good Practices: A compilation of success stories and lessons learned in SDG implementation. |

7. EKOenergy on social media |
|
By following EKOenergy on social media, you get relevant updates about the climate crisis, renewable energy and EKOenergy's activities worldwide. Here are some recent posts: - Impactful procurement of renewable energy can refer to direct or indirect impact. One of the many reasons corporates choose to use EKOenergy-labelled renewables is that the ecolabel addresses both these aspects (on LinkedIn).
- Climate Action Network Europe's General Assembly is ongoing: Happy to see our poster next to other members' posters at the venue. Together we are unstoppable! (on Facebook).
- Fridays For Future Helsinki: we keep repeating: #EndAllFossilFuels #ClimateActionNow #StopFuellingWar (on Twitter).
- For us, it's Earth Day every day! 🌍 Caring for our planet is a daily affair and goes beyond only the visible, but today we are appreciating the visible 🌳🐦🦆🌲 around us in Finland (on Facebook).
- Liana joined our team as a European Solidarity Corps volunteer and will be with us for the next 12 months. She is from Ukraine and will help us promote EKOenergy-labelled energy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (on Instagram).

8. Climate delay is the new climate denial |
|
Despite countless investigations, lawsuits, social shaming, and regulations dating back decades, the oil and gas industry remains formidable. After all, it has made consuming its products seem like a human necessity. Oil and gas industry leaders used outright climate denial when it suited their corporate and political interests throughout the 1990s. But now that outright denial is no longer credible, they’ve pivoted from denial to delay. Industry PR and marketing efforts have shifted massive resources to a central message that, yes, climate change is real, but that the necessary changes will require more research and decades to implement, and above all, more fossil fuels. Climate delay is the new climate denial. Nearly every major oil and gas company now claims that they accept the science and that they support sensible climate policies. But their actions speak louder than words. It’s clear that the future they want is one that still uses fossil fuels abundantly—regardless of what the science says. Copied from From denial to delay: How the oil industry refined its strategy on climate, by Naomi Oreskes and Jeff Nesbit. |
