The National Institutes of Health (NIH) HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-termSM) Initiative is an aggressive effort to bring the full power of biomedical research to bear on the national opioid public health crisis. It includes research on pain management as well as on the prevention and treatment of opioid misuse and addiction.

Our Center is leading or coleading HEAL Initiative programs designed to:

  • Improvement the management of pain within health care systems
  • Develop effective personalized therapies for chronic low-back pain
  • Assess whether behavioral interventions can improve medication assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.
