His mother was killed for doing her job in Malta. Now he’s seeking justice.

Matthew Caruana Galizia, 33, is a reluctant celebrity in Malta. He was catapulted into the spotlight when his mother, Daphne, the island state’s most prominent investigative journalist at the time, was assassinated in October 2017: A bomb planted beneath the driver’s seat of her car exploded as she drove away from the family home.

That explosion, which Caruana heard and was one of the first to respond to, changed his life forever.

They are battling wage discrimination, challenging police wrongdoing and even inspiring male worker unions.

He would talk for hours without notes, entertaining large audiences with his charm and a steady smorgasbord of easily digestible spiritual wisdom. So it’s rather fitting that Watts, who died in 1973, is now enjoying a second life on YouTube, where decades-old recordings of his lectures — invariably accompanied by classical music and video montages of scenic splendor — garner millions of views.
