Rotterdam Ahoy venue welcomes Eurovision Song Contest with audience
The Eurovision Song Contest, one of Europe’s biggest TV productions, is coming to Rotterdam Ahoy this May. The Dutch government has decided that audiences of 3,500 visitors will be allowed for each of the nine live shows as part of the Dutch initiative 'Fieldlab Events’. The aim of Fieldlab Events is to develop validated measures and provide a safe basis for the return of live events. We see this as a great step forward and a perfect opportunity for our venue to prepare and adopt all necessary safety measures, guidelines and procedures to guarantee a safe and hospitable visit during Europort later this year.
Dedicated pavilion for 'Rising Stars' at Europort 2021

Europort and MARPRO have teamed up to present a new concept for maritime start-up companies during the upcoming exhibition from Nov. 2-5, 2021, in Rotterdam. Taking the lead in innovation and charting the path to a durable maritime future is one of Europort’s primary ambitions. That is why we want to give a stage to pioneers, forward-thinkers and next-gen innovators. The 'Rising Stars Pavilion’ will be a dedicated area for Start-Ups that contribute to a smarter, cleaner, or safer maritime future. Moreover, it aims to be a steppingstone for young entrepreneurs to kickstart their maritime career.

Ship Finance: Funding the future
Inland shipping trade mission from Austria
In addition to Digitalization, Energy Transition and the Next Generation, a fourth major and essential theme has been added to the Europort 2021 agenda: Ship Finance. The global shipping industry is a capital-intensive business. With traditional investors reducing commitments and access to credit lines scarce, ship finance has become one of the foremost challenges facing the industry. Europort will present a new approach to facilitate the dialogue between capital providers and end-users while exploring financing options for both ocean and inland shipping. Part of the Europort programme will include the 1st Mare Forum: Funding the European Inland Navigation (3 Nov.) and the 20th Mare Forum: Ship Finance (4 Nov.)

On the occasion of Europort, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce will organise a special trade mission to Rotterdam to promote inland shipping as an environmentally friendly alternative to road freight transport. Rotterdam is known as an innovator across the maritime ecosystem, with expectations high the valuable connections and knowledge will be shared between the visiting Austrian delegation and local inland shipping experts. We look forward to welcoming the Austrian trade mission, port operators, transport organizations and companies from the logistics sector to Europort on 5 November.

Industry News: Suez Canal Success

The blocking of the Suez Canal by the 400m long containership Ever Given brought the world’s busiest trade route to a grinding halt for six days and dominated the headlines last month.

Dredging is deeply rooted in Europort’s DNA so the event also captured our attention as it shone the spotlight on dredging vessels and the challenging environments in which they operate. Under the watchful eyes of the world and immense time pressure the Suez Canal Authority mobilised its dredger the Mashhour, constructed by Europort exhibitor Royal IHC, which worked around-the-clock to free the giant container vessel. SMIT Salvage, the specialist salvage subsidiary of giant Dutch contractor Boskalis, was appointed to assist with the salvage operations. Working in close collaboration, the Suez Canal Authority and SMIT Salvage successfully re-floated the Ever Given after dredging approximately 30,000 cubic meters of sand. A total of 11 harbour tugs and two seagoing tugs (Alp Guard and Carlo Magna) were deployed, in an incident which highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnerships in finding solutions and delivering results.
