The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

Well, that was quite the year. Be sure to catch our year in review story, which will be out shortly.

Here's a look at other top stories heading into 2022:

Stay home, governor says

Gov. John Bel Edwards is encouraging people to skip tonight's New Year's Eve celebrations in the effort to control coronavirus infections. The state is going through a surge again, this time with the omicron variant, and health officials say precautions are needed again. Blake Paterson caught the governor on a Zoom meeting yesterday.

Ida debris torched tonight

A pair of Ascension Parish families have built a carousel-shaped bonfire and will set it ablaze tonight. Their wood: Hurricane Ida debris. Elyse Carmosino explores.

First female justice

The first woman elected to the state Supreme Court has been honored in Pointe Coupee Parish. "Kitty" Kimball was the first woman on the bench in the 18th Judicial District and within 10 years was on the Louisiana Supreme Court. Terell Wilkins was there for the ceremony.

Be safe tonight, whether you go out or travel only from the kitchen to the living room, and have a great 2022.
