Paul Skenes is going to The Show

A couple of months ago during gymnastics season, I asked Olivia Dunne at a news conference if she was going to spring practice to watch her boyfriend, former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes, during spring training.

"No," she said. "He'll probably get called up pretty soon."

How right she was.

I suppose we all know where Dunne will be this weekend: at Wrigley Field, watching Skenes make his major league debut Saturday for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Chicago Cubs.

The Pirates announced Skenes' call up Wednesday, ending his brief but uber-dominant reign on the mound with Triple-A Indianapolis. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington kept talking about the desire of the parent club to bring 2023's No. 1 overall draft pick up slowly.

Well, the parent couldn't tell the precocious child no anymore.

Speaking of pitching prowess, LSU softball pitcher Sydney Berzon kept throwing and throwing and throwing in the Tigers' SEC Tournament opener Wednesday against Alabama until Taylor Pleasants finally ended the game in the bottom of the 14th inning with a blast to center field to lift LSU to the 3-2 win. It was the longest game by innings in tournament history. The Tigers' reward? A game Thursday against SEC regular-season champion Tennessee.

The SEC and NCAA baseball tournaments are still looming out there for those Tigers. Maybe. LSU looks to be pretty well set for the SEC Tournament, but the Tigers' NCAA projections are a lot more shaky. Check them out here.

Our Jan Risher has this feature on Kim Mulkey and her family, with some interesting comments about his mom from her son, former LSU baseball star Kramer Robertson.

Another day, another round of Angel Reese bashing, this for her decision to attend the Met Gala on Monday night as her first WNBA season with the Chicago Sky is gearing up. Read what Reese had to say to her critics here.

Personally, I love an LSU newsletter that includes some golf news. We've got some good news for the Tigers, as Ingrid Lindblad and the LSU women's golf team swept the titles in the NCAA Bryan Regional hosted by Texas A&M, punching their collective ticket to the NCAA Championships.

That's all we have for you to today, folks. Thank you for reading and subscribing.

Meanwhile, enjoy the Paul Skenes Show.
