Backed by new funding and the fully mapped genome of the long-extinct Tasmanian tiger, scientists in Australia aim to repopulate the species within the next 4 to 6 years. Andrew Pask, University of Melbourne biologist and Tasmanian tiger expert, and his team will use a DNA cut-and-paste tool to decode the tiger's genetic code to attempt to recreate the marsupial, according to the journal Nature.
