Good morning Voornaam, I hope you had a terrific long weekend and the opportunity to do something you really enjoyed. Life is short. Interested in reducing your tax liability by up to 235%? Jaltech is launching its latest Section 12B solar tax incentive investment. Click here to register for the launch webinar. In company news, MTN Zakhele Futhi investors were given a great start to their weekend by the announcement on Friday of just how much value would be flowing through the structure. It's incredible to think that this B-BBEE deal was practically underwater at the end of last year! Things can change quickly in the market. In deal news, Primary Health Properties won't give up on Assura. They've made further tweaks to their offer and they've responded to Assura's concerns about the merger vs. the cash alternative on the table from KKR and Stonepeak. In earnings news, Novus has plenty of moving parts to navigate, but at least the latest period was strong. Over at Remgro, Mediclinic seems to be on the up in countries other than Switzerland where there are significant impairments. Sadly, Vunani has swung into losses. Merafe is still trying to figure out what the future holds for the South African ferrochrome market. Over at Gemfields, their rights issue achieved decent levels of support in the market. Get the details on all these updates and the Nibbles in Ghost Bites at this link>>> Long weekends in South Africa are often about trips to the dorpies that offer so much appeal in our outlying areas. We often don't realise how interesting the backstory actually is. The ostrich industry is just one example of the type of trend that lifts (and can sink) towns. As Dominique Olivier looked deeper into this industry, it became clearer to her that we should be putting more effort into investing in this excellent source of protein. Enjoy it here>>> In Magic Markets, the latest episode features Craig Antonie of AnBro and Connie Bloem of Mesh.Trade, who joined us to talk about the Titans portfolio and the thinking behind an equal-weighted portfolio of global sector leaders. Enjoy it here>>> Finally, if you've emerged from the long weekend feeling fresh and full of ideas on how to improve South Africa, then remember that PSG Financial Services' Think Big South Africa competition is looking for submissions around how capital markets can drive economic growth. With a R500k first prize, you just might change your own life along with our country. Get the details in this podcast>>> Have a lovely day! |

International Business Snippet: |

In the US - China trade war, much will depend on the extent to which Chinese domestic consumption can increase to pick up the slack from a likely structural decrease in sales to the US. If May data is anything to go by, there's hope for China - although government subsidies are making all the difference. Retail sales in China were up 6.4%, ahead of estimates and significantly higher than 5.1% in the prior month. Still, I wouldn't read too much into just one month of data. It's about seeing how things play out over a longer period. Recent research in Magic Markets Premium has covered Intel, Waste Management (possibly the best company you've never heard of), Novo Nordisk, Simon Property Group, TJX and NVIDIA. Our focus is on giving you broad exposure to global stocks, with enough underlying detail to help you make better decisions and learn tons along the way. The entire library is available for just R99/month, a deliberate strategy to make it as accessible as possible. Invest in yourself and give it a try! |
