Paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh

“He has the greatest sense of service of all the boys in the school. [He is] a born leader but will need the exacting demands of a great service to do justice to himself.”

So remarked Kurt Hahn, the founder of Gordonstoun, in Prince Philip’s penultimate school report. Few could have imagined how prophetic those words would become.

Full details of Prince Philip’s funeral have now been released, with Prince Charles describing his “dear Papa” as “a very special person”. Prince Harry is set to return to the UK for the ceremony, although the Duchess of Sussex, who is heavily pregnant, will not be joining him. Buckingham Palace has also announced that the Queen will spend two weeks in mourning.
